Shift Mental Focus With A Few Of My Favorite Things

I wrote a post earlier about the power of thought in Formula To Getting Results. In the post I wrote about how to overcome overwhelming negative thoughts by taking a time out and focusing on good thoughts.

Just for fun I wanted to share with you what popped into my mind as I wrote that post earlier today. I thought of Julie Andrews in The Sound of Music. Specifically, I was thinking of that song she sang during the storm "My Favorite Things". It brought a smile to my face, because I really loved that movie as a child.

And now thinking about it again, that song has a great tip about how to shift your focus from negative thoughts to positive ones. Just think of some of your favorite things or if you want, sing it! Change the original lyrics to suit your own list of favorite things.

Formula To Getting Results

In the Law of Attraction we are shown that we have the ability to change the results we experience in our life. The following formula breaks down the process of getting the results you desire.

Thoughts + Feelings + Action = Results or in other words your thoughts plus your feelings plus your actions become the result(s) you experience in life.

A closer look at this formula will lead you to understand why it holds true.

It begins with your thoughts. Your thoughts often come into your mind from the things you sense around you i.e. what you see, hear, smell, taste and/or touch. Now thoughts on their own really don’t matter very much.

What is more important is the emotion or feeling associated with the thought. When you become consciously aware of a thought, it causes a reaction inside of you, an emotion or feeling. The stronger the feeling the more influence it will tend to have on you and your subsequent actions.

Think about it for a moment. Have you ever been in the middle of something and you get a very disturbing call from a friend, spouse, or family member. For the rest of the day you would be thinking about the call. Did it not cause the negative feelings to linger on and put you in a bad mood. In such a state it wouldn’t be a surprise if you did not complete the task at hand at your very best or if at all.

This is an example of how a thought caused a strong emotion which resulted in an undesirable result. Now it would hold to reason that a thought putting you in a positive state of mind cause a significantly different result.

So it is important to be aware of your thoughts. And anytime your negative feelings become too overwhelming to handle just stop what you are doing and find a way to change your thoughts calmly.

Go some place private and take a few minutes to just focus on things that you enjoy. Build on good thought after good thought. You will get your balance back and move towards doing things in the best way that you can.

Isn’t that the result we want? To do things the best way we can as often as possible in the direction we choose.

Purpose & Vision - FREE Stuff From Bob Proctor

One of my friends contacted me a few weeks ago and told me about his experience after watching The Secret. He shared with me that for the first time, he finally understood his purpose in life.

Our conversation got me to think about my purpose in life. More specifically, it got me to think about if I had a clear and definite picture about what it is I am suppose to do. And I realized I didn't have one. I have set certain goals, promises, and things I would like to accomplish in life. But at very best I declared I had an unformed sense of purpose.

The more I started to think about it. The more benefits I saw of having a clearer idea of ones' purpose.

Oprah Video - Surrender

Wow! I really enjoyed this video. I wrote in my featured article "Top 10 Reasons Why You Just Messed Up The Law Of Attraction" about when you just want something so badly it overcomes you with desparation and frustration; and certainly this is not how you use the Law of Attraction.

As I have said before to have LOA work, you need to be grateful and the experience you must have needs to be a joyous one. In this video Oprah talks about her experience in such a situation and her realization of the fact she wanted it so, so bad.

I tell you something about Oprah...she can really move you inside. I really related to this story as I have been in a similar situation. Watch it below.

Bob Doyle Answers Questions On The Law Of Attraction

Here is a video of Bob Doyle from The Secret. With the growing attention on the LOA, he decided to come up with this video to clear some miscnceptions about LOA.

He covers:

  • The issue that people have about The Secret just being about getting money

  • The problem people have with the Law of Attraction being described as "like attracts like"

  • The misunderstanding that you must always be happy

  • That people understand that attraction proces is simply making a wish and letting it happen

How Long Should I Visualize For, And How Often?

Hi All,

One of the tools in the Law of Attraction is visualization and I came across this post on the topic. It is a post based on teachings from Esther Hicks. It shares how long we should spend visualizing and how often.

From The Science of Getting Rich I knew that we are to spend as much of our leisure time contemplating our vision in earnest gratitude, and this is reflected in the post below. But the post goes on to share the necessary time required for a visualization to be connected with the universe, 68 seconds.

Personally, I find myself visualizing as often as 3 to 4 times a day for about 3 to 5 minutes per session. I don't have a fixed time when I do it, I just start whenever I feel I have a few minutes and/or when I feel I need a pick me up for the day.

Here is the post:

Esther Hicks, in the original version of The Secret, wrote a book with her husband Jerry, Ask and It Is Given, and they state:

“Within 17 seconds of focusing on something, a matching vibration becomes activated. And now, as that focus becomes stronger and the vibration becomes clearer, the Law of Attraction will bring to you more thoughts that match. At this point, the vibration will not have much attraction power, but if you maintain your focus longer, the power of the vibration will become further-reaching. And if you manage to stay purely focused upon any thought for as little as 68 seconds, the vibration is powerful enough that its manifestation begins.”

The power of 68 seconds is quite grand. According to the Abraham-Hicks channeling:

17 seconds = 2,000 hours of action taken
34 seconds = 20,000 hours of action taken
51 seconds = 200,000 hours of action taken
68 seconds = 2,000,000 hours of action taken

Then Abraham-Hicks also states:

“Who would want to bang things into place, when they know that they can spend 68 seconds and have the universe do it for them? Nobody, yet it is what the majority of you do. You would rather jump into action than do your 68 seconds. You would rather jump into action than align up your energy."

I would recommend visualizing at least daily, and when ever you have a spare minute-and-a-half to mentally live your dream. Your goal is to keep your focus on “living in your mind” what you want for 68 seconds or greater without interruption. If you cannot keep your focus that long to begin, that’s alright, do not give up. Like a muscle, your mind will grow stronger with more exercising.

Rev. Michael Beckwith, really is one of my favorite 'Secret" teachers. Just take a look at this video. It is an interview on CBS, where he shares answers to some questions about the Law of Attraction. Not very detailed explanations, but informative nonetheless.

I always find that he speaks very well. And his explanantions very well thought out and great to listen to.

Video Of Esther Hicks - The Stream

Here is a video of Abraham through Esther Hicks where they are sharing a story about "The Stream". It brings about a picture of how people today live their lives. People who swim upstream (not in alignment) where life is more difficult compared to those who have learned to swim downstream (in alignment).

The most interesting point I found in the video is that most people who are swimming upstream don't even realize it. Their environment has conditioned them to view that life is difficult and that is normal way of life. Which is similar to the concept of programming which I wrote about in a previous post "Positive Affirmations".




If you like this video of Esther Hicks and Abraham, I would recommend you take a look at her DVDs. I find their teaching on LOA to be very spiritually based.

Personally I liked the DVD "Introducing Abraham" a little better. Because it gives an insight about Abraham and the interaction with Esther and Jerry Hicks, which I was very curious about.

"The Law of Attraction in Action" is also good. It is a recording of a seminar of Abraham/Hicks sharing lessons about LOA. Some very good lessons.

Attract What You Will

To use the Law of Attraction, not only do you have to be aware of your predominant thoughts; but you must also build the ability to filter out the unsupportive ones through a shift of mental focus.

As a human being you are blessed with the ability to use your will. And it is your will that allows you to decide what thoughts you give attention.

The following is a Q&A session where I share with you the critical role that your will plays in attracting your desires.

What is the purpose of the will?

First I think it is important to define what is meant by will. In this context, the will is your ability to focus on a particular thought or task regardless of what is going on around you or within you.

Its role in the Law of Attraction is to help you keep your thoughts and actions targeted and consistent.

Why is that important?

It's important because, we are constantly being bombarded by external influences. A large majority of these influences are negative.

When your thoughts and behavior are impacted by negative influences. The signal you send out to the universe changes and derails your efforts to receive what is coming to you from the universe.

That is when your will comes in. To get you back on track to attracting and receiving what it is you want.

What are we suppose to focus our will on?

In your journey to attract what you want. You will become aware of the right things to think and do. You must then use your will to compel yourself to think those right things and do those right things.

It requires effort to keep your thoughts fixed on your desired end result. But the additional challenge is the ability to do that continuously, especially in bad situations and for prolonged periods of time. That effort requires enormous amounts of will.

Does using the will attract the things you want faster?

Instead of faster I think it would be better to say more efficiently. But yes through proper use of your will. You will be more efficient in attracting what you want.

By using your will to filter out negative and unwanted thoughts, your message to the universe will be clearer. By exercising your will continuously you provide the universe with a steady and consistent message.

Both of which allows the universe to answer your desires in a more effective manner.

What would you recommend to develop strong will?

I feel a good place to start would be to ask yourself if you have strong faith and purpose in what it is you want. Application of your will becomes more effective if you do.

I would also tell you to avoid people or materials with any negative and uncomplimentary comments towards your desire(s). Expose yourself to materials that are in harmony with your vision on a daily basis.

And ultimately, your faith in the law itself would be key. That you realize beyond a doubt, regardless of what is going on around you, which is seemingly bad, what you are thinking is being attracted towards you.

Attraction Is Not The Only Law

As a fan of The Secret you would have been introduced to the Law of Attraction. The universal law that dictates that you attract into your life the pre-dominant thoughts that you hold in your mind.

But you may not be aware there are other laws at work.

These laws work hand in hand with the Law of Attraction and each other to bring about what you want. The following is a description of these other laws and how to apply them in your life.

The Law of Perpetual Transmutation

Shares with us the creative process. That everything in the universe originates from source energy and that it is always moving into physical form.

Be aware that your thoughts or rather the thought images you hold in your mind are powerful. These images are what start and guide the creative process. To begin having the life you want, you must begin by choosing the right images that are aligned with your desires.

The Law of Relativity

When looking at this law you find that nothing is anything until you begin to compare it to something else. There is no big or small, fast or slow, anything and everything, simply just "IS".

To benefit from this law, you need to understand that someone else will always, either do something or have something better than you. You must develop a habit of relating your own situation to something worse. You will inevitably become more grateful and your situation will always look better.

The Law of Vibration

Is the basis for the Law of Attraction. Simply put, your thoughts emit a certain vibration. And as a result you attract situations and outcomes of similar vibration into your life.

Become aware of your thoughts. Use this awareness as a guide to determine what vibration you are sending out to the universe. So whenever you realize you have a bad thought, use your WILL to change it. Think of things that make you feel better and you will become better aligned with what you want.


The Law of Polarity

Declares that there is an equal and opposite thing for everything. There is no up without a down, no left without a right, no inside without an outside. If you were 5 blocks away from your apartment, it would also mean that your apartment was 5 blocks away from you.

So if something bad happened, there is something equally good about it. The situation is what you make of it. The obvious challenge is to view a bad situation from the opposite end. There is always a lesson to be learned from every situation, even a bad one, which can be used very positively. Learn to look for that lesson.

The Law of Rhythm

In short this law shares that life, as with nature, has cycles. You CANNOT feel good all the time. If you did, you wouldn't even realize it. Your low feelings are what allow you to enjoy the high feelings. It is this contrast that gives you the ability to feel desire for greater things in life.

So when you are on a downward cycle, realize that sooner or later you will move into the upward cycle. What is important is to not dwell on the "bad stuff". Choose positive thoughts and have faith.

The Law of Cause and Effect

Simply states that every cause has its effect; and that every effect, its cause. In other words a result cannot occur without a chain of events leading to it and in the same token the outcome of a chain of events will be a result.

You make use of this law by focusing on the CAUSE. By doing so the EFFECT will automatically take care of itself. For example if it is your desire to be healthy, you focus on the events that would lead you to being healthy e.g. Proper diet and exercise.

The Law of Gender

Decrees that your desires require a certain amount of time to elapse before it becomes real. When you have the image of your dream house in your mind. You have initiated the thought process for that house to manifest. The challenge and the habit you must form is patience.

Know that the universe is responding to your thoughts. Energy is always moving into physical form. But what you must also know is that it comes at the right time. You have to continue to put out a consistent and clear thought to the universe.

Top 10 Reasons Why You Just Messed Up The Law Of Attraction

You have just learnt about The Law of Attraction. You are genuinely really excited because for the first time you see a solution for improving your life and getting what you want.

So you whole-heartedly throw yourself into it. You get yourself a vision board and start visualizing the stuff that you want. Then after a few days or weeks you start to wonder, “Hey wait a minute. Is this working? Where is my stuff? Why isn’t it here yet?”

If you have been experiencing thoughts like this, the following list is a collection of common issues that people fall into when they first begin to use The Law of Attraction.

1. You Are Not Profoundly And Consistently Grateful

Gratitude is perhaps the most important factor in using the Law of Attraction. It is the means of communicating your desires to the universe.

A suggestion I have to help you achieve profound and consistent gratitude is to start a DAILY gratitude journal. In the evenings, just think about your day and simply list down everything you were grateful for.

Reflect upon it, get into that feeling of gratitude and do it EVERYDAY. Your line of communication to the universe will improve.

2. You Are Not Clear On Exactly What You Want

Being unclear by saying “I want my life to be better” or “I want more money” doesn’t work. You must see what you want vividly in your mind.

So lets assume you want more money. Write down a note with A) The details of the “more money”, the exact amount, type of money, currency. B) The date when you want to receive the money. C) What value you are giving in return for that money. D) Put it in the present tense and have “I am so happy and grateful now that” before it.

Looking like – I am so happy and grateful now that I receive an additional US$1,500 of rental income per month, which was first received on the 1st of August 2007, for renting out my studio apartment on Chester Street.

3. You’re Using The Law With A “I Will Give It A Try” Attitude

It is important to understand why you are feeling this way. For the most part I think it is because people are fearful. That if it doesn’t work, you are able to rationalize why. Which in this case would be “Hey I didn’t really try, that’s why it didn’t work”.

Build up your faith by better understanding how the Law of Attraction works. You can also read testimonials of others using the law successfully. Better understanding will move you forward more confidently.

4. You Have Some Old Baggage

When you begin to use the law you will experience different degrees of mental friction. This is normal because it takes time to adopt new thought patterns.

Immerse yourself in materials on the law. Read books on the topic. Listen to relevant audio CDs. Watch DVDs about the Law of Attraction. Then start by attracting things that cause you less mental friction. Once you begin to habituate improved thought patterns and your confidence grows, attraction becomes easier.

5. You Want It So, So Bad

You don’t want to become so “INTO” getting the “Thing” that you want, that you become desperate and frustrated in the process. The attraction of what you want is supposed to be a wonderful and joyous experience.

Put your thoughts of what you want out there. Then remember to be calm and relaxed. Your state of mind should be similar to that of being in love. You
